It’s always good for hard-working professionals with a 40± hour workweek to learn healthy ways to keep energy up. Coffee is usually the number one choice for boosting energy, but since healthy is the new thing, coffee may not be the best choice. I thought it would be nice to share some foods that professionals could eat on their lunch break and during the day to boost brain power and energy.

Salmon
– This is a well-known food that people are encouraged to eat because it reduces the risk of heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s.  What is not known is that salmon can also enhance memory and cognition. Omega 3 is an important fatty acid that makes it the number one brain food. It is also good for skin and hair health.

Oatmeal/whole grains – Oatmeal can be a great food for breakfast and lunch. It is easy to make and very good for your heart. The plus side with eating whole grains or a bowl of oatmeal is that it’s a fast-burning carbohydrate. The power of fast-burning foods is that it can help you maintain concentration and keep you attentive.

Iron-rich foods – Having iron is important in your diet because it keeps you from developing iron deficiency. Foods that keep iron levels up are beef, beans, dark leafy greens, chicken and turkey. Eating these foods will keep your learning ability, memory and attention at an all-time high.

Water-filled foods – This may not be known, but foods such as watermelon, strawberries and cucumbers can add to your hydration instead of just drinking water. If you do not keep hydrated throughout the day you risk reducing the amount of oxygen flow to your brain. There’s a multitude of risks with not getting enough oxygen to your brain that can affect your health.

Blueberries – This is a great food in general. You can add them to your oatmeal, yogurt, cereal and smoothie. They are rich in antioxidants, which improve learning abilities and motor skills.

Chocolate – I saved the best one for last. Just because this is on the list, doesn’t mean a chocolate bar a day is good for you. One square after lunch will do just fine and if you make it dark chocolate, that is even better. Chocolate is rich in antioxidants just like blueberries. This allows for increased blood flow to the brain to protect brain cells.

Entrepreneurs who work long hours tend to eat unhealthily and grab whatever is easiest. With the weather warming up, Baker Creative wants to encourage you to grab a bag of blueberries and eat some healthy salmon for lunch. Brainpower is very important when sitting at a desk all day doing nothing but work. Try these tips for two weeks and see how you perform at work. Let us know about your progress.
