Baker Creative got the amazing opportunity to present at the Columbus Business First 2012 Social Media Summer Camp where we discussed writing, photography and design for social media. The class was filled with professionals from businesses that wanted to be more informed on the professional aspect of social media.

We discussed the popular social media platforms that businesses are approaching every day to help evolve and network the company. One of the platforms we mentioned was blogs, which is not always the most popular outlet for businesses but is steadily growing to get people engaged in what the company is all about. Of course, there will be personal blogs that talk about the exciting life of a new mother or the adventures of a man traveling on his boat. These are all great topics as long as the voice of your blog is eye-catching to the blogger world.

Bloggers with an engaging subject have the advantage to write interesting material, but even if your material is mundane it still can attract an audience depending on your style and voice.

Develop a writing style and tone appropriate to your subject material. Try to write the way you speak and avoid jargon and clichés.

Post often, even if your posts are short. This way your readers won’t forget about you.

Allow your readers to comment on your posts. People like giving their opinions and sometimes these opinions can be very helpful to your business or personal life.

We also went into detail about how to develop your writing style and voice and covered the top Dos and Don’ts of blogging that every new blogger should know.

This was a great opportunity to connect with professionals! On August 29, 2012 we will be at the Social Media Summer Camp Expo where people can meet other social media experts, learn about new social media products and services, and network with other local business professionals.
